Delft University of Technology

Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) is one of the pioneers in airborne wind energy and its Airborne Wind Energy research group at the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering is a long-standing academic player in the international R&D community. Six PhD projects in the field of airborne wind energy have been finalized, while five are ongoing. The current activities include

  • wind resource assessment and energy yield prediction,
  • quasi-steady and dynamic models of soft- and hard-wing kites,
  • high fidelity aero-structural models and experimental analysis,
  • operation optimization and flight control,
  • environmental, societal and policy aspects.

The team at the Faculty of Technology, Policy & Management combines engineering sciences, social sciences and the humanities focussing on socio-technical aspects of innovative technologies, strategies for start-ups and optimal development paths.
