Kitepower BV

Kitepower is one of the leading developers of airborne wind energy systems. Founded in 2016 by Johannes Peschel and Roland Schmehl as a spin-off from TU Delft’s airborne wind energy research group, the company is building on 10 years of university R&D, including 5 years of regular test operation of a soft-kite based pumping kite concept. The current commercial product, the Kitepower Falcon uses a 60 m2 kite that is specifically designed to allow remote communities or applications mitigating their dependency on a polluting and expensive diesel supply. The containerised on-shore solution is one of the first to enter the market. Since October 2023, Kitepower is conducting a long-term test campaign on the AWE test site of RWE Renewables GmbH in Bangor Erris, Ireland.
